Welcome Meeting for the Chairman of the National Council of Bhutan and his Delegation

At the invitation of the Speaker of the Japanese House of Councilors, the Chairman of the National Council of Bhutan and his delegation paid a formal visit to Japan in September, 2011.
They visited Kyoto University on September 30, welcomed by Professor Akihiko Akamatsu (Executive Vice-President) and members of the Kyoto University Bhutan Friendship Program. Professor Sakiko Yoshikawa, Director of the Kokoro Research Center, moderated the meeting.
After introductions and greetings, Professor Tetsuro Matsuzawa of the Primate Research Institute introduced the history and present circumstances of the friendship program, after which three researchers made presentations. After their reports, members of the National Council of Bhutan and of the Kyoto University Bhutan Friendship Program discussed plans for future exchanges between Bhutan and Kyoto University.

The research presentations were:

"Prospects for Buddhist Studies in Bhutan"
Dr. Seiji Kumagai (Young Researcher Development Center)
"Nature in Bhutan and its Environmental Education"
Dr. Shinya Yamamoto (Primate Research Institute)
